How to get
The area is located between the Olympic Village and the Old Town.
The Barceloneta quarter began to take shape in the XVIII century, at the same time when a new port was being built in Barcelona. To make it easier for ships to moor, a huge spit was washed from the mainland deep into the sea, on which sailors and fishermen began to settle, and over time Barceloneta grew. The military engineer Verbo was engaged in the design of the area, who decided to arrange the streets at right angles and not bother with the facades of buildings, making them the same.
In the form in which we can see Barceloneta today, the area was formed on the eve of the 1992 Olympic Games. Numerous shopping and entertainment centers, restaurants and beaches have been built here. But if you want to see the Barceloneta area of Barcelona as it was a century ago, go into the back streets away from the coast. Here, they still dry clothes just on the streets, in the courtyards the old men score a "goat", and the kids chase the ball.
