Located in the heart of London, the Soho district is the most colorful and lively place in the British capital. It is here that the largest number of pubs, discos, and restaurants are concentrated, where the London nightlife is bustling.
With its many strip bars, sex shops and moths, Soho is known as the red light district, and a large number of gay clubs have brought the area fame as the gay center of the city. There is also a London Chinatown with many Chinese shops, restaurants and massage parlors.
There was once a small village on the site of this area, which disappeared after Henry VIII ordered the construction of a royal park in 1536. Here the monarchs staged a hunt, accompanied by the cry "So-Ho". It is believed that the name of the district originated from this word.
