The Tower of the Winds is the oldest meteorological monument in Athens, with a height of 12 meters and a diameter of about 8 meters. The construction of this octagonal Pentelicon marble tower on the Roman agora is attributed to the astronomer Andronikos of Cyrrhus. In the Middle Ages, the tower was adapted for a church bell tower. At the beginning of the XIX century, it was freed from age-old layers. It served as a prototype of the Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford (1794) and the tower of the same name in Sevastopol (1849).
