The aquarium in Sharjah began its work only in 2008 and immediately became one of the main attractions of the city. The aquarium covers an area of 6500 m2. There are 20 aquariums on two floors, which hold 1.8 million liters of water and contain about 250 species of marine life, including aggressive moray eels and sharks. The second floor of the aquarium is occupied by a museum dedicated to marine flora and fauna.
The aquarium and museum introduce visitors to the inhabitants of coral reefs, mangrove forests and rock pools. The aquarium in Sharjah was founded not so much to entertain tourists, but with an educational purpose aimed at getting acquainted with wildlife, environmental problems and opportunities for preserving the wildlife of the seas and oceans.
