A house with spikes in Barcelona occupies an entire block in the Eixample district. Its six towers with spires, from which the name of the house comes, give the building such a look that many tourists mistake Casa de les Punxes for a medieval castle. In fact, the house was built at the beginning of the last century by order of the three Terrades sisters, from whom the second name of the house comes – Casa Terrades.
The sisters wished to combine three separate houses into one. They offered to execute the order to the famous architect, who worked in the Art Nouveau style, Joseph Puig and Kadafalch. He created the project of a hexagonal building with facades facing three streets at once. Each of the facades was decorated in a special style. One of the facades is decorated with carved stone, another with panels, and the third with balconies.
In 1975, the Terrades House in Barcelona was recognized as a historical monument, and 5 years later it underwent a major restoration. Today, the building belongs to a private company, so access inside is closed, and you can view the architectural masterpiece only from the outside.
