Tsampika Mountain on Rhodes is known for the fact that there is a Byzantine monastery of the same name, in which a miraculous icon of the XI century is kept. To worship the shrine, it is necessary to overcome 307 steps of a steep staircase, but this does not stop those who come to the mountain to ask the Virgin Mary for heirs. If, after visiting the monastery, the petitioners have a girl, she is (according to tradition) called Tsampika, and if a boy – Tsampikos.
Local, ubiquitous goats grazing not only on the ground, but also on trees give a special flavor during a visit to the monastery.
While visiting the monastery, do not forget to bring a bag of sand with you – it is not so easy to bring construction materials to a steep mountain, and an extra bag of sand will not hurt.
