The monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes was founded in 1326 by Queen Elisenda de Moncada, who, after the death of King Jaume II, headed the Order of St. Clare and lived in the monastery for 37 years. The relics of the queen now rest in a sarcophagus installed in the main church of the monastery, and the entrance to the temple is decorated with statues of Elisenda. One sculpture depicts her in a royal robe, the second in the image of a nun.
Despite the advanced age, many buildings of the monastery are perfectly preserved, for example, you can explore the cells of the nuns, whose ceiling height does not exceed 160 cm. The first and second floors of the monastery are open to tourists, but the third is closed. The monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes in Barcelona is still in operation, and 20 nuns live here permanently.
